Knife-carrying Colwyn Bay man is jailed

A man who spat in the face of a police officer after being arrested for knife possession has been jailed.

Bowaen Wild, 28, of Churchill Close, Old Colwyn, appeared for sentencing at Mold Crown Court today (Monday, 14 July).

He was jailed for 10 months after admitting multiple charges.

North Wales Police officers had arrested Wild on 2 March 2025, following reports of a male walking down Glan-Y-Mor Road, Old Colwyn, with a knife in his hand.

He had also been identified as a suspect in a nearby attempted robbery.

During his subsequent detainment, Wild spat in the face of one of the officers and bit another on the hand.

Wild faced further charges relating to separate offences, which included affray and a racially aggravated public order incident.

The latter charge related to racial slurs Wild uttered to medical staff on 13 March 2025.

Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan said: “Wild’s behaviour—ranging from weapon possession and attempted robbery to violent assaults and racially abusive conduct—was deeply concerning.

“His violent behaviour against police officers was simply disgraceful. We will not tolerate any assault against an emergency service worker whilst trying to do their jobs to keep others safe.

“This sends a clear message that such acts will not be tolerated, and our officers and frontline workers deserve to be protected from harm and hostility.

“We will continue to deal robustly with offenders who risk the safety of our community members.”

North Wales Police Federation General Secretary and Treasurer, Lewis Davies, said: “North Wales Police Federation welcomes the custodial sentence handed down to Bowaen Wild.

“We must however register our disappointment with the length of sentence. Wild has shown a blatant disregard to the safety of our brave officers who are simply doing their job.

“The risks of infection from spit borne disease cannot be overstated. We will continue our work both locally and nationally to call for improved sentencing in such cases to serve as a proper deterrent to those who seek to threaten and injure Police officers and the wider emergency services.”
